Protected classes
ScanMyHomes prohibits discrimination, harassment, or differential treatment on the basis of any class protected under federal, state, or local law, including:
- RaceWe do not allow listings or content that discriminate based on race.
- ColorDiscrimination based on skin color is prohibited.
- ReligionListings may not exclude or prefer based on religion.
- SexIncludes gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation where covered by law.
- National originAll persons regardless of national origin are welcome.
- DisabilityReasonable accommodations and accessible housing are protected.
- Familial statusFamilies with children under 18 are protected — listings may not exclude children.
Prohibited content
Listings, agent profiles, and any user-generated content may not include language that:
- Indicates a preference, limitation, or discrimination based on a protected class.
- Uses exclusionary phrases such as "adults only," "no children," "no disabilities," "Christians only," or references to neighborhood demographics.
- Steers users toward or away from neighborhoods based on protected characteristics.
- Excludes Section 8, housing-choice vouchers, or other lawful sources of income where prohibited by local law.
Automated moderation
ScanMyHomes runs automated keyword and pattern checks against every public listing description, agent bio, and marketing field. Listings flagged for potential fair-housing violations are routed to our compliance team for review before publication. Repeated violations may result in account suspension.
Report a violation
If you believe a listing or user on ScanMyHomes violates fair housing law, please email fairhousing@scanmyhomes.com with the URL and a brief description. You may also file a complaint directly with HUD at hud.gov or call 1-800-669-9777 (TTY 1-800-927-9275).
